My name is Brooklyn Truant, I was born and raised in Prince George on the ancestral lands of the Lheidli T’enneh people. I have an undergrad in History and Political Science with a minor in First Nation Studies from UNBC. I am connected to education through my experiences of working and teaching kids in dance, summer camp, extra-curricular activities, as well as in the classroom. My intention is to create a welcoming environment, where all students feel safe to learn and grow. I have been fortunate enough to have created this space for my dancers, and I have been able to watch them grow into amazing dancers and people.
I am very involved in the local arts community, and I continue to learn about movement and music. I continue to develop my skills as a dancer, singer and actor through classes and productions. I believe it is important to express ourselves creatively and fill our lives with what we love. For me, this means adding music and dance into all aspects of my life including my teaching. As a summer camp counsellor, I would use music while we were transitioning from station to station. This allowed my campers to immerse themselves in the camps experience, while also adding a fun break to walk and sing!
My goal as an educator is to provide a classroom where every student can find success, as well as feel comfortable in the learning environment. I aim to find all students strengths and support their learning however I can. I was fortunate to be encouraged by my teachers to pursue my goals and dreams, and I hope to be that person for my future students.
